In its 42nd year, Northwestern University Dance Marathon raised $1,201,216 for Blessings in a Backpack and the Evanston Community Foundation. Thank you to everyone who helped us #FeedDreams! Relive the memories from the incredible weekend here.
Now in its 42nd year, Northwestern University Dance Marathon (NUDM) is one of the largest and most well established student-run philanthropies in the nation. Since its founding in 1975, Northwestern students have raised over $16 million in support of over 30 different beneficiaries, annually raising over $1 million for each of the last five years.
Founded in 2005 by a Kentucky teacher who noticed children were returning to school Monday morning too hungry to concentrate, Blessings in a Backpack works to provide children in need with a supply of food for the weekend. Without this food, some children could go up to 65 hours without eating, thus affecting their ability to learn, grow, and dream.
The mission of the Evanston Community Foundation is to build, connect, and distribute resources and knowledge through local organizations, helping Evanston thrive as a vibrant, inclusive community. The Foundation manages endowments, addresses Evanston’s changing needs through grantmaking and provides leadership on community issues.
AT&T is a loyal sponsor of NUDM and continues to sponsor NUDM to honor the memory of Cathy Coughlin a longtime leader at AT&T who graduated from Northwestern. She created the It Can Wait Campaign and was a tireless advocate of spreading awareness of the dangers of texting and driving.
