As Dance Marathon grows closer and the prospect of swollen ankles and sleep deprivation sets in, it is important to evaluate why we dance and the people we are dancing for. The B+ Foundation, this year's beneficiary, raises money for childhood cancer research while offering emotional and financial support for families. Jake is just one of the many incredible children whose life has been changed by the foundation and we would like to take some time to share his story.
Jake is a spunky, sports loving third grader whose smile radiates energy. His favorite song is "Party Rock Anthem" but if you are lucky this Bears fan will show you his Super Bowl Shuffle. For such a big sports fan, being diagnosed with lymphoma for a second time could have been devastating--instead Jake faced adversity with his typical positive energy. He convinced nurses and doctors to play baseball and basketball with him, and even managed to set up two basketball nets in his room so he could play full court games during his stem cell treatment.
Through the Children's Memorial Hospital, Jake's family found the B+ Foundation. From this unbelievably uplifting experience, Jake has been to his first Northwestern football game and his entire family has formed memories that will last a lifetime.
Jake's family would like to extend their thanks to each and every dancer for taking the time to they raise funds to help the incredibly worthy cause of childhood cancer. They feel truly inspired to have students opening their hearts and making their family feel so special.
